In April, China's ultra-high voltage power grid construction entered a period of intensive breakthroughs, with new progress reported in seven key projects from the eastern coastal areas to the western inland areas, with a total investment of over 200 billion yuan, outlining a green power grid that covers the whole country and is interconnected across regions.

On April 28th, the Zhejiang 1000 kV high-voltage AC ring network project officially started construction, which is currently the largest and highest investment ultra-high voltage AC transmission project in China. The project starts in Jiaxing and ends in Lishui, connecting seven cities including Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Ningbo, Taizhou, and Wenzhou. The total length of the line is 508 kilometers, with a total investment of 29.3 billion yuan. It is expected to be completed in 2029. At that time, it will be integrated with the existing power grid architecture in Zhejiang, forming a ultra-high voltage grid structure of "one ring within the province and four DC outside the province".

On April 24th, the Zhejiang section of the Gansu Zhejiang ± 800 kV HVDC transmission project was announced to be fully connected. This project is a key project in the national "14th Five Year Plan" for power planning, with a total investment of 35.3 billion yuan. It is also China's first full capacity ultra-high voltage flexible straight project.

On April 20th, the Datong Huailai Tianjin South 1000 kV high-voltage AC transmission line project (Tianjin section) entered the comprehensive construction stage. The project will commence in March 2025 and is expected to complete system debugging and be ready for operation in the first half of 2027. This project will further enhance Shanxi's power transmission capacity to the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region.

On March 24th, the Qinghai Hainan Clean Energy Base's Guangdong Ultra High Voltage Direct Current Transmission Project passed the feasibility study report review in Beijing and officially entered the feasibility stage, with a total investment of nearly 73 billion yuan. On April 17th, the feasibility survey and design of the Guizhou, Guangxi, and Guangdong sections of the project were publicly tendered, with a maximum bid limit of 368 million yuan.

On April 10th, the Shaanxi section of the Shaanbei Anhui ± 800 kV high-voltage direct current transmission project completed its operation handover acceptance, and the line passing through Shaanxi, Henan, and Anhui provinces has been fully connected. The project starts from Baota Mountain Converter Station in Yan'an City and ends at Hezhou Converter Station in Hefei City, with a total length of 1070 kilometers and a total investment of over 80 billion yuan. It is planned to complete the commissioning of the DC system and put it into operation by the end of June 2026.
